Permits

I’ve lost my car a few times. Parked in a ramp, left my car and didn’t realize I didn’t know where I parked until I was trying to leave. It was really bad in my twenties. Before phones with camera’s you’d just have to make sure you looked.

I never looked.

I think it was the fifth time wandering around Minneapolis alone at 2am before I realized maybe I should just park in the same ramp on the same level every time I go downtown. Every time I go to the Mall of America I still park on the New York level.

Now that I’m older, wiser, I’ve decided I need unique cars that stand out, that way they are easy to spot.

These vehicles, a hot pink muscle car and a hard rock edition Jeep Wrangler, are very identifiable. They SCREAM me. I’ve often run into friends that have said, “I saw your car and knew you were here!”.

Having these distinct vehicles has served me well in trying to seek my car in parking lots but for the first time I wish my vehicles were a little more incognito.

Why?

My teenage chauffeur and his permit…

My chauffeur and I will be tooling around town and sometimes I find myself shrinking in my seat. Particularly when he drives straight into traffic before he eases right, when we’re SUPPOSED to be taking a right turn. Or when he almost went down a one-way…

Pretty regularly I wonder how long it will be before people will look at my Jeep and think, “Oh there’s THAT driver”. Like I said it’s unique, our city isn’t terribly large. What if my chauffeur gives us a reputation. I’m not sure I’m ready for that!

The good news is my driver is getting better with each journey. He’s receptive to our critiques and improves with each trip. He’s no where near ready for the freeway OR my pink car but he will be.

In the meantime, if you see my Jeep around town, and you’re wondering why the turns are choppy or why we’ve stopped 10 feet behind the stop sign or why a left hand turn is taking to long be patient with us. He’s learning and I’m trying to be cool and collected while he learns.

If you see my pink car…you can blame me 🤣 He hasn’t mastered the manual transmission yet!

Happy driving!
Namaste,
Jes xoxo
