Mother Nature

Every morning as part of a decompression and prepping for the school day, my littlest man and I go on a walk with our furry princess. It’s not a long walk, at most it is 5 minutes, while the bigger man is rocking his solo’s before school.

We started this walk many months ago, without fail we go daily.

I can’t remember the exact day but 2 weeks ago, after a discussion on the moon, we heard multiple birds chirping. I asked him how many different ones he could hear. As day was breaking over the horizon we stood in silence and counted. He originally guessed 6 but after we both listened we both counted 4 different bird’s songs.

I told him the silence winter brings is over and I LOVE the sounds spring brings.

We have a daily huddle at work. Every day at 9am our team gets together as a pow-wow to cover the look ahead.

The meeting always starts out with 3 good things or recognition. As a believer in the power of gratitude I usually like that part.

Usually.

Not this week.

Tuesday morning someone had mentioned that they saw their first robin of the year. The definition of springtime, right?! One of the supervisors commented, “oh they must be so confused by the weather this year”.

Excuse me?

The comment made me more furious than I’d like to admit.

How arrogant do you have to be to think that you, as a human, know more than the Mother Earth and her creatures?

Human beings are so disconnected from nature we have no idea what’s going on. Instead of taking boredom as a gift to your imagination time is filled with 10 second videos on tik tok. Scrolling through countless feeds is the only exercise some people get.

You really think that the Earth is confused? Because I don’t. I think she knows exactly what she’s doing.

Rumi says, “the breeze at dawn has secrets to tell you. Don’t go back to sleep.”

The truth is nature has SO many things to tell us but we’re so distracted we might never learn them.

Take a second. Go outside. Take deep breaths. Listen. How many bird songs can you hear?

Namaste,

Jes xoxo
