Being Authentic

My resolution for the new year was Freedom.  Mainly in the financial department.  Ironically working as a Financial Representative did not help us and we ended up getting into some financial trouble.  It’s difficult to get ahead when you end up behind with the IRS.  THIS year, fingers crossed, will be different.

As the first month of this new year comes to a close I realize financial freedom, while it is important, may not be the most important thing I can do this year.

I’ve mentioned before that I work at a bar.  It ends up being a better fit for me.  While before I would get shushed when I talked now I get paid to talk a LOT!  I also get to meet many different kinds of people the best part about that is I get paid to hear their stories!  Let me tell you, once the booze starts flowing so do the stories.

Most of the stories are VERY funny, almost always they start with having some drinks.  I’ve heard about people thinking diet cokes were beer, someone ending up in jail after a naked hot tub party in Denver, someone drove the wrong truck home from the bar and didn’t realize it until the next morning, pooping on a beer case instead of the toilet that was one foot away, peeing on hutches because they thought they were in the bathroom…I could go ON and ON!

I’ve heard no great story ever started with eating a salad and I believe it.

A couple of months ago, I noticed a slight change.  It was a little of the he said, she said stories that didn’t add up.  Then I started to wonder how well I knew some of these people I now call friends.  Who was right? After a pretty devastating heart-break on my end I realized not all people are who they appear to be.

The jock has a BAD drug habit.

The nicest guy in the world isn’t truthful.

“Happily” married people step out.

Beautiful women treat their bodies terribly.

The drama people live for is heartbreaking.

This isn’t even the half of it.

I am bothered by how many people are not as they seem.

I don’t understand it.  Find yourself and BE THAT, it’s that simple.

This reminds me of something I read a while ago in the Upanishads…

As the first month of the new year comes to a close, I can’t help but change my resolution.  Financial freedom will be a close second but living authentically seems like my only option.

How are you living these days?

Much peace and love,

Jes xoxo
